How to overcome Fear of being seen and Self Doubt for Yoga teachers
Oct 26, 2026THE PRACTICE · YOGA BUSINESS & SELF-TRUST
Why I created Soul Assignments, and what I've learned helping women move through self-doubt, visibility fears, and the uncomfortable practice of being seen.
I have a question for you.
How many times have you had an idea you were genuinely excited about, only to talk yourself out of it before anyone else even knew it existed?
You could see it.
The class. The workshop. The beautiful little business that would allow you to share something you love while creating a life you actually enjoy living.
And then your brain got involved.
What if nobody signs up?
What if someone I went to high school with sees my post?
What if the other yoga teachers think I don't know enough?
What if I put myself out there and absolutely nothing happens?
So you do what a lot of incredibly capable women do.
You get busy preparing.
Another certification. Another course. Another notebook filled with beautiful ideas. Another website redesign.
And because you're doing something productive, you convince yourself you're moving forward.
I know this pattern because I've lived versions of it myself.
And after years of working with women who have so much wisdom, experience, and love to share, I've learned something.
Most of the women I coach don't need another business strategy nearly as much as they need to trust themselves enough to use the one they already have.
That's why I created Soul Assignments.
The Fear Nobody Warned You About in Yoga Teacher Training
Here's something we don't talk about enough.
You can feel completely comfortable guiding someone through a difficult yoga pose and absolutely terrified to tell people you have a class next Tuesday.
You can hold space for someone else's vulnerability while doing everything possible to avoid your own.
You can teach your students to release judgment, honor their journey, and trust their bodies.
Then go home, record a beautiful video about your work, watch it seventeen times, and delete it because you don't like how you look or sound.
Girlfriend, we need to talk about that.
Because the problem isn't that you don't know enough.
It's that somewhere along the way, you started believing you needed to become a different version of yourself before you were allowed to begin.
More confident. More polished. More experienced. More successful.
And who exactly gets to decide when you've arrived?
That's a question I ask my private coaching clients all the time.
Because if your business requires everyone else's approval before you take action, you're handing over the very freedom you wanted to create.
What I've Noticed Behind Closed Doors in My Coaching Sessions
One of my favorite parts of coaching is watching what happens when a woman stops explaining all the reasons she can't do something and starts recognizing what she's already capable of.
I've coached women with multiple certifications who weren't teaching.
Women with incredible ideas who couldn't choose just one.
Women who had already created beautiful experiences but were afraid to invite anyone into them.
And women who genuinely believed they needed another six months of preparation before they were ready to charge for their work.
Here's what I've learned.
Sometimes the conversation isn't really about marketing.
It's about being visible.
It's about the discomfort of telling people what you want.
It's about allowing someone to see you trying something new without knowing whether it will work.
And sometimes it's about letting go of the identity of the woman who's always learning so you can become the woman who's actually creating.
I can help someone design a signature offer, clarify her message, and map out a customer journey.
But none of that matters if she's too afraid to invite someone into it.
So we practice.
Not by pretending the fear isn't there.
By choosing one meaningful action she can take while the fear is still there.
Why I Created Soul Assignments
I didn't create Soul Assignments because the internet needed another challenge.
Goodness knows we have enough of those.
I created them because I've watched what happens when women stop measuring their progress by how much they've learned and start recognizing what they've actually done.
Inside my private coaching sessions, I give clients small, intentional assignments between our conversations.
Not busywork.
Not seventeen more things to add to an already overwhelming to-do list.
Actual opportunities to practice the very thing they're avoiding.
Sometimes that means choosing one person they want to help instead of trying to serve everyone.
Sometimes it means sharing an unfinished idea with three real people.
Sometimes it's recording a video, sending an invitation, publishing a welcome experience, or finally putting a price on something they've been giving away.
And sometimes the assignment has absolutely nothing to do with their business.
It's taking an afternoon off.
Going outside.
Doing something that makes them laugh.
Remembering that they didn't fall in love with yoga just to build another life where they're too busy to enjoy being alive.
I refuse to teach women that building a successful yoga business requires them to abandon the very philosophy that brought them to yoga in the first place.
Your business is part of your life. It is not supposed to consume it.
And the beautiful thing about these assignments?
They give us something more useful than another conversation about confidence.
They give us evidence.
Your Brain Needs New Evidence, Not Another Pep Talk
There's a reason I love giving my clients small, achievable actions.
When you're afraid of being judged, your brain can treat visibility like a threat.
And avoiding that uncomfortable feeling brings immediate relief.
You don't publish the post, so nobody can criticize it.
You don't invite anyone to your workshop, so nobody can say no.
You don't launch the offer, so you never have to find out whether someone wants it.
The relief feels good.
But avoidance also keeps you from discovering what actually happens when you try.
Small, repeated actions help interrupt that pattern.
They give you opportunities to experience discomfort, follow through, and learn that being seen doesn't automatically mean being rejected.
This is one reason I use my Power of 3™ framework in coaching.
THE POWER OF 3™
Regulate.
Take Action.
Integrate.
First, we create enough steadiness to move forward.
Then we take one meaningful action.
And afterward, we acknowledge what happened, what we learned, and what we're capable of doing next.
We don't wait until every uncomfortable feeling disappears.
We build self-trust through experience.
And I want you to understand something important.
The goal isn't to become a woman who never feels afraid.
It's to become a woman who no longer lets fear make every decision.

The First Six Soul Assignments
Last week on Instagram, I shared the first six assignments I use to help women move from endless preparation into meaningful action.
01.Get Clear
Choose one person you want to help and one problem you want to solve.
02.Keep It Simple
Create one simple way to help her experience a meaningful result.
03.Share It
Put your idea into the world. Share it three times, without waiting for perfection.
04.Start the Conversations
Have three real conversations about what you're creating.
05.Build Your Welcome Experience
Create a simple way for someone to say yes and join your world.
06.Be Consistent
Take one meaningful action daily, no matter how small.
Notice what isn't on that list?
You don't need an expensive website.
You don't need ten thousand followers.
You don't need to become an influencer.
You need to stop hiding the very thing you say you want to share.
And yes, I know that's uncomfortable.
That's why we practice.
The Yoga Philosophy Behind the Practice
One of the reasons I love bringing yoga philosophy into business coaching is that the wisdom we've been studying on our mats applies just as much to how we live.
Take svādhyāya, the practice of self-study.
It's easy to think self-study means learning more about ourselves.
But what happens when we start observing our patterns without automatically obeying them?
When you notice that you're rewriting your Instagram bio for the fifth time instead of sharing your offer?
When you realize you've been asking six different people for advice because you don't trust your own decision?
When you catch yourself comparing your beginning to another teacher's ten-year business?
That's an opportunity to practice.
Not to judge yourself.
To get curious.
What am I actually afraid of right now?
What am I avoiding?
What would trusting myself look like in this moment?
And then, my favorite question.
That's where yoga becomes more than something we practice on a mat.
That's where it becomes how we live.
This Week, We're Going Deeper
The first week of Soul Assignments was about creating movement.
This week, we're going deeper into the beliefs and behaviors that keep you from building the business you say you want.
We're looking at what happens when you stop collecting ideas and start creating experiences.
When you stop waiting for strangers on the internet to validate your work.
When you stop assuming someone else's business model is the one you need to follow.
And when you begin recognizing that the very qualities you think make you different might be the reasons someone chooses to work with you.
Because I don't want you building a business that looks impressive on Instagram but feels miserable to live inside.
I want you creating something that reflects who you are, what you value, and the life you want to live.
That's what we're practicing.
And you don't have to get it perfect.
You just have to participate.
A Little Coaching Moment, Just for You
If you were sitting across from me in one of my private coaching sessions today, I'd ask you this.
What is the one thing you've been putting off because you're afraid of what people will think?
Not the ten things on your to-do list.
The one thing you keep coming back to.
The idea you get excited about until you imagine someone else seeing it.
The invitation you keep writing but never sending.
The offer you keep improving but never sharing.
Now ask yourself:
What is this waiting costing me?
Not just financially.
What is it costing you in confidence, creativity, connection, and the experience of actually living the life you're trying to create?
Because every day you wait for permission is another day someone who needs your work doesn't get to experience it.
And I think that's worth considering.
Your Soul Assignment This Week
Choose one thing you've been avoiding because you're afraid of being seen or judged.
Make the next step so simple that you can do it today.
Then do it.
Before you ask someone else what they think.
Before you redesign it.
Before you convince yourself you need another certification.
And afterward, give yourself credit for following through.
That's how we begin creating new evidence.
One tiny choice at a time.
consistent action.
